This unique festival, which began in 2004 as a celebration of local theater, has become an important showcase for theater groups and performers, as well as one of the Bay Area's most popular one-day free summer festivals. All types of theater are presented, including drama, comedy, one-acts, excerpts, scenes, musical theater, solo performers, improv, children's shows, new works, workshops, opera, etc.

"By working together, the San Francisco Bay Area's theater community has created the largest theater event of the year whose main objectives are to showcase exciting performers and promote theatergoing," said producer Bill Schwartz.

The festival, with attendance of 8-10,000 enthusiastic theatergoers and potential theatergoers, takes place at Yerba Buena Gardens, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Zeum, and the Metreon. Previous festivals have included: The Marsh, Tell it on Tuesday, 42nd Street Moon, Lamplighters Music Theater, Exit Theatre, A.C.T.
