Photo Flash: Meet the Star of MY NAME IS RACHEL CORRIE, Coming to the Magic Theatre
The internationally acclaimed drama based on the writings of a 23 year old activist, My Name Is Rachel Corrie, will be presented at San Francisco's Magic Theatre from April 27 to May 14, 2017.
This powerful solo show was created by actor/director Alan Rickman and journalist Katharine Viner, editing material from Corrie's journals, letters, and emails to family and friends as she describes leaving her home in Olympia, Washington to work as an activist in the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Corrie captured international attention when she stood in the path of an armored bulldozer in Palestine, and was fatally injured.
My Name Is Rachel Corrie made its debut at London's Royal Court Theatre. In three subsequent sold-out London runs, followed by runs in New York and around the world, the piece has been both surrounded by controversy and embraced by impassioned proponents, raising pleas to support political work along with the difficult discourse it creates. The play has now been performed in 10 countries, including Israel.
The San Francisco production, to be presented by Sawtooth Productions, will feature Charlotte Hemmings reprising her New York performance as Rachel Corrie, with direction by Jonathan Kane.
Performances will run April 27 - May 14, 2017 (press opening April 29) at the Magic Theatre, Fort Mason Center, Marina Blvd, San Francisco, CA 94123. Tickets: $50 general, $25 student/senior. For information or to order tickets visit MagicTheatre.org or call (415) 441-8822.
