Performers Under Stress Opens Fall 2012 Season with YOU NEED TO READ POETRY! World Premiere, 11/30-12/23

By:

By extracting its essence, great poetry transforms life's experiences into verbal collages that touch our souls. YOU NEED TO READ POETRY! explores deeper the physical and emotional context of poetry and its influence on where we, as humans, live today; a world of sound bites.

Dedicated to exploring the unknown, the undocumented, the unspoken, and the unexpected, Performers Under Stress pushes poetry's vocabulary into a synesthetic experience of movement, image, and sound. YOU NEED TO READ POETRY! features over 40 poets, from Langston Hughes and Anne Sexton to Nikki Giovanni and Lucia Perillo, for an experience of poetry in a theatrical context; intense, funny and real.

Developed through a series of physical theatre workshops, YOU NEED TO READ POETRY! promises audience members a unique opportunity to experience joyous, high-energy, intensely kinetic ensemble work as multimedia elements entwine with the language of poetry to create poetically inspired movement.

Founded over 20 years by Scott Baker and Charles Pike, Performers Under Stress is a recipient of the Joseph Jefferson Citation for their theater work in Chicago. Along with Valerie Fachman, Geo Epsilanty, Sylvia Kratins, and a growing ensemble of artistic associates, PUS continues to be highly praised for its bare-bones productions of Samuel Beckett plays and original works. Previous productions include critically lauded plays: How To Love, Cancer Cells, Failure 2 Communicate, An Apology for the Course and Outcome of Certain Events Delivered by Doctor John Faustus on This, His Final Evening, Mrs. Warren's Profession, Sam I Am and Son of Sam I Am, Ghost Train Coming, tempestuous(ness), or HIStory Is Told by the Victor, and The Farmington Armada.

The show plays November 30-December 23 (Press opening November 30), Friday-Saturday at 8:00pm and Sunday at 2:00pm at the Bindlestiff Studio, located at 185 6th Street, San Francisco.

Tickets are $20.00/$10 Students/Seniors. Tickets for all performances are available at youneedtoreadpoetry.eventbrite.com. More information is available at performersunderstress.com.
