Pear Theatre Presents the World Premiere of GIRLS KILL NAZIS

The Pear Theatre tradition of non-traditional holiday fare continues with the world premiere of "Girls Kill Nazis" by James Kopp, a fun and topical romp designed to perfectly balance your Thanksgiving dinner. "Girls Kill Nazis," directed by John Morrison, previews on November 8, with press and Opening Night on Friday, November 9 (followed by a champagne gala). The show runs Thursdays through Sundays through December 2 (no performances Thursday or Friday of Thanksgiving week). In this new work, in the not too distant future, the American Nazi party has been elected to the highest office in the United States. Nazi law is now American law. But the members of the Book Club of Bisbee, Arizona aren't having any of it. From the haven of the Copper Queen Library - and while discussing inspirational works like The Handmaid's Tale, To Kill a Mockingbird, 1984, Fahrenheit 451, and others - four women bond together to fight back against fascism by killing Nazis who pose a threat to their community, and storing their decapitated heads in jars.

James Kopp is the slightly twisted mind behind the plays "Geeks vs. Zombies," "The Millionth Production of a Christmas Carol," and "Supervillain!!," among others. His plays inject a healthy dose of dark humor into serious current issues, exploring larger problems of society while also reminding us of the power of individual friendships and courage. A veteran of live performance nationwide and long-time Kopp collaborator, John Morrison, will direct.

The cast includes Stephanie Crowley, Diane Tasca, Jennifer Sorkin, and Heather Mae Steffen as the four women who bond over books and Nazi-killing. They are joined onstage by Maria Costello, Jim Johnson, James Kopp, Keith Larson, John Morrison, and Michael Weiland. Miranda Whipple stage manages.

Pear Theatre began as the Pear Avenue Theatre in June 2002, under the leadership of Artistic Director Diane Tasca, by a group of theatre artists who believe that audiences are eager for plays that challenge as well as delight and move them. Pear Theatre produces intimate theatre by passionate artists, whether classic works or cutting-edge plays. Now in its sixteenth season, The Pear attracts theatre artists and audience from all over the Bay Area for its award-winning and high-quality productions; and its ongoing commitment to excellence was recognized by the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle with the Paine Knickerbocker Award, an annual special award for a Bay Area company contributing to the high quality of theatre in the region.

Pear Theatre moved in 2015 from its original 40-seat warehouse space to a new, state-of-the-art black box theatre close by, with capacity of 75-99 seats depending on the configuration of the production. This exciting move allows The Pear to continue its tradition of intimate theatre while taking on new challenges and opportunities. In August 2017, Betsy Kruse Craig took the helm as the new Artistic Director, beginning with this season.
