Marin Theatre Company Hires New Development Director Angela Colombo

By:

Marin Theatre Company welcomes Marin County native Angela Colombo as its new Director of Development. Born and raised in San Rafael, she has a background in community and government relations, communications and fund development. A lifelong advocate for the performing arts and arts education, she has focused her career on supporting projects that build community and increase opportunities for the arts and those in need to have access to enriching and impactful experiences:

"I am thrilled to be joining the highly creative and capable staff at Marin Theatre Company - an organization with an established history of producing high-quality, nationally recognized theatre in the community of Marin. As a native of this county, I am excited to bolster the efforts of MTC, as the organization works to expand its presence on the stage, in our communities and especially in our schools."

Ms. Colombo comes to MTC from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Marin and Petaluma where she was responsible for restructuring the development department and raising $1M of the overall $2.9M operating budget. In her time at BGCMP, she substantially increased donor activity and support. Prior to BGCMP she was the Director of Development for the Marin Symphony where she was responsible for overseeing fund development activities that accounted for more than 60% of the organization's operating budget, increasing overall contributions including securing the largest unrestricted gift from an individual in organizational history.

Prior to her work at Marin Symphony, Angela worked as a Field Representative for then California State Assembly Member and current Congressional Representative Jared Huffman and prior to that was the Vice President at North Bay Leadership Council, a nonprofit comprised of major employers in the North Bay focused on policy issues.

She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre from the University of California at Santa Barbara, was a North Bay Business Journal 40 under 40winner in 2011 and is a member of the Marin Forum as well as the Government Affairs Committee for the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce. She previously co-chaired the inaugural Wine, Women & Shoes fundraising event for Sunny Hills Services.

MTC's Artistic Director Jasson Minadakis is delighted to have Ms. Colombo on board to support and spearhead the organization's community engagement and development efforts:

"Angela is a tremendous new leader for Marin Theatre Company. I am incredibly pleased to have her leading our development efforts. Her knowledge of our county and the funding community are extraordinary and will help elevate the organization's efforts to those befitting our 50th anniversary season. She has already, in her short time with us, begun pushing the organization to be bolder and braver in our development initiatives and her work will greatly benefit our artists, our patrons and Marin county's students and schools."

Ms. Colombo officially began working with MTC on October 1, 2016, in time to develop and lead the organization's end-of-year giving campaign. MTC's former Director of Development Noralee McKersie will continue to work for MTC as its part-time Major Gifts Officer.

Marin Theatre Company is the Bay Area's premier mid-sized theater and the leading professional theater in the North Bay. We produce a six-show season focused on new American plays, and a four-show Family Series. We are committed to the development and production of new plays, with a comprehensive New Play Program that includes productions of world premieres, two nationally recognized annual playwriting awards and readings and workshops by the nation's best emerging and established playwrights. Our numerous education programs serve more than 8,500 students from over 40 Bay Area schools each year. MTC strives to create intimate, powerful and emotional experiences that engage audiences to discuss new ideas and adopt a broader point of view. We believe in taking risks and inspiring people to participate in live theater, regardless of personal means. MTC celebrates the intellectual curiosity of our community, and we believe that theater is an important tool to help build empathy. MTC was founded in 1966 and is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
