Lower Bottom Playaz Continue August Wilson's CENTURY CYCLE Staging with SEVEN GUITARS, 6/28
Prescott Joseph Center For Community Enhancement is proud to announce the 12th season of theater in its Sister Thea Bowman Memorial Theater. Season 12. TALES OF IRON AND WATER, starring The Lower Bottom Playaz under the Director of Ayodele Nzinga, MFA, PHD, opens with the fifth installment of August Wilson's CENTURY CYCLE, SEVEN GUITARS. You are invited to join the Sister Thea Bowman Memorial Theater and the Lower Bottom Playaz as they continue in their commitment to be the first theater and troupe to ever stage all ten plays in August Wilson's CENTURY CYCLE consecutively.
Shows will run June 28th, 29th, 30th and July 5th, 6th, 7th. All shows are Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Friday and Saturday shows have 7 pm curtains. On Sunday the only show is the 2 pm matinee showing. The Sister Thea Bowman Memorial is located at 920 Peralta St. in Oakland CA.
The Lower Bottom Playaz, the oldest troupe of color currently presenting theater in Oakland CA, is described by Bay Area theater critic Ken Bullock as, "Community Theater at its most committed." Veteran troupe members Adimu Madyun, Koran Streets, and Stanly Hunt have been cast to perform the major roles in Wilson's SEVEN GUITARS, a New York Drama Critics Circle award winning work.
The Sister Thea Bowman Memorial Theater is wheelchair accessible, located near BART, with an AC Transit stop in front. Tickets go on sale April 1st, 2013. Tickets start at $25.00 for premium seating with amenities, $15.00 General Admission, $10.00 for seniors and students, group discounts available for groups of 6 or more. Advance tickets available online. Tickets are also sold at the door.
