Cinnabar Theater, the beloved professional theater in Sonoma County, has announced the shows selected for its 41st season. Each year, the nonprofit presents an exquisite mix of plays, musicals, opera, concerts, and culinary delights for local audiences - and this year will be no different. Ticket packages for two, three, or five shows just went on sale at a significant discount, with extra savings for youth and seniors.

"We're delighted to present an entire year of enticing and affordable shows," said Elly Lichenstein, the theater's artistic director. "Come to Cinnabar, and you'll experience the genius of Steinbeck and Mozart. You'll enjoy a sweet new play from Craig Wright, then travel to a European café for Jacques Brel's cabaret. And don't miss our hilarious and heartwarming look at the hit musical 'La Cage aux Folles.'"

The new season begins in September with "The Pavilion" (September 6 - 22, 2013). Hailed by critics as "an 'Our Town' for our time," "The Pavilion" is a tender look at two former lovers who encounter each other at a high-school reunion. This uplifting play comes from Emmy nominee Craig Wright, who also penned episodes for TV shows like "Six Feet Under" and "Lost."

Next, love conquers all in Cinnabar's sumptuous production of "La Cage aux Folles" (October 8 - November 3, 2013). This jubilant show, which earned 11 Tony Awards including Best Musical, celebrates marriage and family in all their forms. Then Cinnabar kicks off 2014 with "Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris" (December 31, 2013 - January 19, 2014). Brel's legendary songs bewitch audiences in this witty and wistful cabaret, which became a long-running off-Broadway hit.

In spring, a classic friendship comes to life in "Of Mice and Men," the masterpiece from Nobel Prize winner John Steinbeck (March 21 - April 6, 2014). Following her poignant production of "The Price," Sheri Lee Miller returns to Cinnabar to direct this touching portrait of Lenny and George, two underdogs in pursuit of the American dream.

Finally, Mozart's music soars at Cinnabar with a rich and playful production of "The Marriage of Figaro" ((May 30 - June 15, 2014). After Cinnabar's sold-out run of "Carmen," Artistic Director Elly Lichenstein and Music Director Mary Chun reunite for this glorious marriage of music and theater. It's comic opera at its best, with saucy jokes and gorgeous songs of love.

Audiences also will enjoy three nights with renowned solo performers in the months ahead: Brian Copeland reprises "Not a Genuine Black Man" on August 13, 2013 and unveils "The Waiting Period" on August 15, 2013, while Will Durst returns with "BoomerAging: From LSD to OMG" on June 5 and 8, 2014.

Cinnabar's schedule features a dozen diverse and delightful concerts as well - from Celtic music with Men of Worth (August 14, 2013) and sultry flamenco by Amancer (September 12, 2013) to a satirical cabaret with Roy Zimmerman (November 3, 2013) and a Beatles tribute by Pepperland (January 31, 2014). Other community events that benefit the theater include the Taste of Petaluma (August 24, 2013), Gershwin in the Garden (September 15, 2013), the Crab Feed at Lagunitas Brewery (January 28, 2014), and the 18th annual Great Petaluma Chili Cook Off (May 10, 2014).

"I'm so proud to be a part of Cinnabar because of the enormous diversity of its artistic offerings," said Terence Keane, the theater's new executive director. "Our artists focus on bringing you great shows. My job is to make it easy for you to see them. We're working hard to ensure the arts are accessible to everyone in our community."

Anyone can see alluring performances at a remarkably low price by subscribing to two, three, or five shows at Cinnabar. Ticket packages range from only $25 to $135. Subscribers save up to 29 percent, which means that their fifth show is free. They get guaranteed seats for Cinnabar's shows, and go to the front of the line when the theater doors open. Plus, they don't pay a service fee for any activity if they order tickets by phone - and only subscribers can switch to another date for free.

Every year, Cinnabar Theater produces a thrilling mix of plays, musicals, operas, and concerts in a remarkable range of genres. Cinnabar's Young Rep offers extensive activities for local youth, and the Cinnabar Chamber Singers welcome anyone who wants to be part of a chorus. All these events take place in the iconic red schoolhouse perched atop a grassy hill on the outskirts of Petaluma. Audiences have flocked to performances in this intimate setting since 1972, when Marvin and Jan Klebe established an arts center for the community. Along with their sons, they transformed a charming 1908 schoolhouse into a jewel-box theater that has hosted successful shows for four decades. Now Cinnabar is preparing another year of lively performances for its loyal audience.

Cinnabar Theater is located at 3333 Petaluma Boulevard North, just off Highway 101 and only minutes from historic downtown Petaluma. There's ample parking up on the hill... and a friendly herd of goats grazing in the neighboring field.
