'Hold Me Closer, Tiny Dionysus: A Greek Comedy Rock Epic' Premiers in SF Oct. 15-24

Mama Calizo's Voice Factory will present Hold Me Closer, Tiny Dionysus, byTrixxie Carr. Directed by Ben Randle, this original play starring Ms. Carr will run October 15 - 24, 2009 at the popular new alternative venue.

Join the diety Tiny Dionysus on her quest to save a group of unemployed SF artists from The Great Recession by leading them to love, clubland and sexually provocative employment. A retelling of Euripides' The Bacchaee, this greek comedy rock epic erupts with lavish pop, classic rock and original music by chanteuse Ms. Trixxie Carr that is sure to save and inspire even most recessed souls.

Performances will run Thursday - Saturday at 8pm at Mama Calizo's Voice Factory (1519 Mission Street, San Francisco). Tickets are $15, with 2-for-1 tickets available to each Thursday performance. Ben Randle (benrandle.net) is currently an Artist in Residence at New Conservatory as part of their Emerging Artists Program. At NCTC, he recently directed Baptized to the Bone by Dave Johnson and the premiere of Tom W. Kelly's play, Friends Are Forever. Other recent credits include the premiere of Joe Besecker's newest play Loving Fathers (SF Fringe, Best of Fringe 2008); The Ball and Daisy Chain (SF Fringe Festival); and Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus (Next Stage). In winter 2010 he will direct Doubt by John Patrick Shanley for NCTC.

Trixxie Carr is a San Francisco chanteuse, actress, faux queen and performance artist. She began her faux queen career at the legendary Trannyshackand was a vocalist with Spencer Day at various San Francisco venues, such as Lush Lounge and The Plush Room. Currently, Ms. Carr is on the Board of Directors of The Lusty Lady of San Francisco and is a lead singer in the live mash-up band Smash-Up Derby, house band at Bootie at the DNA Lounge.
