Guest Speakers Announced for New CLYBOURNE PARK Series

By:

As Bruce Norris's Clybourne Park racks up "Top Ten of 2010" nods from publications around the country (Entertainment Weekly, the New Yorker, the New York Times, Time Out New York, and the Washington Post), American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) has added Experts Talk Back, a new postshow discussion series, to the regularly scheduled InterACT events that will take place in conjunction with the play's West Coast premiere. "We know Clybourne Park will trigger fascinating debates throughout the whole Bay Area community. We like to say that the third act of this play will be the postplay discussion," says A.C.T. Artistic Director Carey Perloff. Experts Talk Back will feature local specialists leading discussions about many of the provocative topics (including gentrification and other issues of race and real estate) that percolate throughout the production, specifically focusing on their relevance to the Bay Area:
Thursday, January 27, 2011, following the 8 p.m. performance:
University of California, Berkeley Professor Richard Walker, who specializes in urban and economic geography, will be in conversation with Brenda Payton, acclaimed Oakland Tribune journalist, who has written extensively on discrimination, poverty, and gentrification.
Thursday, February 3, 2011, following the 8 p.m. performance:
Elvin Padilla, executive director of the Tenderloin Economic Development Project, will be in conversation with a representative from the local architecture and design community.
Thursday, February 10, 2011, following the 8 p.m. performance:
Stanford University Professor Michael Kahan, who specializes in 19th- and 20th-century social history, will be in conversation with Scott Miller of the Oakland Zoning Commission.

Admission to all Experts Talk Back events is free with a ticket to Clybourne Park; the discussions will take place in Fred's Columbia Room on the lower level of the American Conservatory Theater (415 Geary Street, San Francisco). The West Coast premiere of Clybourne Park runs January 20-February 13, 2011; tickets (starting at $10) are available by calling the A.C.T. Box Office at 415.749.2228 or at www.act-sf.org.
