Grammy-Nominated Jazz Band, Italian Operatic Singing, And More Announced At Montalvo Image

This October, Montalvo Arts Center kicks off its 2019-2020 Carriage House Concert Series with performances ranging from rock, to jazz, to Italian operatic singing.

Oct. 3 - 7:30pm: The Hit Men, the legendary rock supergroup that helped rocket countless songs to the top of the Billboard charts, will kick off the 2019-2020 Carriage House Concert Series. Declared by The Iowa Source as "an intoxicating ride through the most magnificent years of rock 'n' roll," The Hit Men present the greatest, from Elton John's "Crocodile Rock" to Journey's "Don't Stop Believing," intertwined with fascinating backstories from their days rubbing elbows with rock royalty. The Hit Men have played and recorded for decades alongside the likes of Frankie Valli, Carole King, Cat Stevens, Three Dog Night, The Turtles, The Who, and other mega-star acts of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Known for their showmanship and sheer talent, the five-man group has collectively won multiple Gold and Platinum Recording Awards, Emmy nominations, Telly Awards, and more.

Oct. 9 - 7:30pm: Applauded by critics for "sparkling clean musicianship and nice variety" (All About Jazz), Acoustic Alchemy will bring Bay Area audiences a crisp jazz sound unlike any other. Acoustic Alchemy is a three-time Grammy-nominated group that has been at the forefront of contemporary jazz for the past 30 years. Recognized for a unique sound that embraces a panoply of styles, including straight-ahead jazz, folk, rock, world music, and more, these musical innovators have made a career of pushing the limits of the acoustic guitar's potential. Dozens of the group's top-shelf jazz-fusion classics include "Mr. Chow," "The Beautiful Game," and "Wish You Were Near."

Oct. 20 - 7:00pm: Famous for dominating the top 10 lists in the 1970s, San Francisco-based band Pablo Cruise is coming back home with its winning blend of soft rock and lite jazz fusion. With surf-soul hits like "Whatcha Gonna Do?" and "Love Will Find a Way," the band thrilled audiences with electrifying live concerts that showcased the perfect mix of compositional and instrumental skill. After a long hiatus, Pablo Cruise reunited in 2005 to bring back its powerful combination of down-to-earth vocals with infectious grooves. Since reuniting, the band has released two CDs and a DVD documenting its exceptional live shows.

Oct. 25 - 8:00pm: Back by popular demand, Italian-born tenor and PBS star Pasquale Esposito will return to Montalvo for the final performance of the month. The international crossover recording artist will deliver a variety of songs in his pop-opera style. He has starred in two PBS specials that take audiences through a musical journey exploring his Italian cultural heritage, and is now working on his third. Described by the San Francisco Chronicle as "splendid" and "a charismatic and dulcet-toned singer," Esposito will perform Italian, Neapolitan, English, and Spanish standards along with pop-inspired pieces and some of his own original compositions. Guests will also be given the option to purchase a gourmet three-course dinner paired with authentic Italian wines before the performance.

For information or to order tickets visit montalvoarts.org or call (408) 961-5858, Monday through Friday, 10am-4pm.
