Firescape Theater to Present Revival of David Henry Hwang's YELLOW FACE!

By: Sep. 02, 2016

On Friday September 23rd at 8pm, San Francisco's Firescape Theatre will be opening a production of David Henry Hwang's hilarious and award-winning show, Yellow Face.

Yellow Face, a comedy where racial politics meets the tragedy of its human cost, is Hwang's semi-autobiographical journey - with wild exaggerations. Truth and fiction blur as an Asian artist finds himself caught up in his community's fight for its artistic identity, which leads him to make costly mistakes.

Jeffrey Sun directs this hilarious and moving show while exploring timeless questions surrounding cultural identity through a sharply satirical lens.

'We wanted to continue the conversation of what constitutes, and who defines, our racial identities,' says Rob Zimmerman, Artistic Director of Firescape. Troy Forte, Producer, added, 'After our last show Emmitt & Ava, which dealt with race on a more personal level, Yellow Face confronts the entertainment world's practice of 'whitewashing' Asian characters and does it with a lot of humor.'

Yellow Face runs September 23rd to October 30th. Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm at Firescape Theatre, 414 Mason Street Suite 502 San Francisco, CA 94102. Student tickets are $15 with student ID. General Admission tickets are $30. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at www.bhpsanfrancisco.com.
