Bay Area Musicals! Closes Second Season with SEUSSICAL THE MUSICAL

By:

Bay Area Musicals!, the newest non-profit theatrical organization to join the vibrant San Francisco Bay Area arts community, closes out its second season with the heart-warming Broadway hit musical, Seussical The Musical. This imaginative and magical tale centers around the beloved characters from the world of Dr. Seuss. The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many "thinks."

Horton faces a double challenge-not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Tony Award winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff, My Favorite Year, Once On This Island and Ragtime) create a memorable score while giving heart and life to all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters.

Seussical will perform July 8 - August 5, 2017 at San Francisco's Alcazar Theatre (650 Geary Street.) Performances are Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays at 8 p.m., and Saturdays at 2 and 8 p.m. Single tickets for regular performances range in price from $35-$65. Tickets for preview performances (Thursday, July 7 at 8 p.m. and Friday, July 8 at 8 p.m.) are $20. Tickets for the opening night fundraiser on Saturday, July 8 are $100 and include an opening night party with the cast immediately following the performance. All proceeds from the opening night fundraiser ticket sales will benefit future Bay Area Musical! projects and productions. Tickets are available now by calling 415-340-2207 or visiting www.bamsf.org.

Says Matthew McCoy, Bay Area Musicals! Founder and Artistic Director: "We wanted to close our second season with our first family-friendly show. No matter your age, Seussical allows your imagination to run wild as you watch these iconic characters sing and dance their way into your heart. It's no surprise this is one of the most performed shows in America after its Broadway run and National tour. Seussical also teaches a lesson of acceptance-to not judge someone because they look different or "think" differently. In a time where we need unity, love, and community, Seussical is the perfect show where we can gather with family members and complete strangers to share this message together."

Led by Daniel Barrington Rubio as Horton and newcomer child actress Kennedy Williams as Jojo, Seussical features an ensemble cast of Bay Area actors including, Andrea Dennison-Laufer, Ariela Morgenstern*, Vinh Nguyen, Katrina McGraw, Zac Schuman, Krista Joy Serpa, Jesse Cortez, and Jenny Angell.

Directed by Rachel Robinson, the creative team for Seussical includes music director David Aaron Brown, choreographer Matthew McCoy, scenic designer Stewart Lyle, lighting designer Cassie Barnes, stage manager Lia Metz, costume designer ElLen Howes, props designer Devon Labelle, and sound designer Julie Indelicato.

Bay Area Musicals! would like to acknowledge its 2016-17 company sponsors and sponsors for Seussical: BARTable, Jeannie Graham, Bay Area Reporter, Microlease and the Performing Arts Academy of Marin.
