An Array Of Diverse Performances Announced At Montalvo Arts Center In Saratoga This March

Montalvo Arts Center continues its 2018-2019 Carriage House Concert Series with four unique performances in March.

March 14 - 7:30pm: Renowned actor David Payne will portray C.S. Lewis on March 14 in An Evening with C.S. Lewis. In this delightful evening, the novelist, poet, essayist, academic, literary critic, and broadcaster has agreed to host a group of curious Americans in his simple house outside Oxford. What ensues is an enthralling performance that has captivated audiences worldwide. Full of humor, this dramatic solo shows offers a fascinating and highly entertaining insight into the man who penned more than 30 works including The Screwtape Letters, The Space Trilogy, and The Chronicles of Narnia. This performance will offer special resonance to attendees of the Bruce Munro at Montalvo: Stories in Light exhibit, which was inspired by Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia.

March 24 - 7:00pm: Hailed by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser as one of the great island songwriters of his generation, Henry Kapono will bring his glorious, rocking, Beach Boys paradise sound to Montalvo this spring. With a multitude of accolades to his name, including 14 Na Hoku Awards and a Grammy nomination, Kapono's original songs celebrate his love for family, express his pride in Hawaiian culture, and share his joy in his home in the Islands.

March 27 - 7:30pm: In an evening of innovative acoustic gold, Will Ackerman will perform with three other accomplished guitar players: Trevor Gordon Hall, Todd Mosby, and Todd Boston, in Will Ackerman, The Gathering, 4 Guitars. Noted for his "uncanny gift of melodic invention" by Billboard, Grammy Award-winning guitarist Will Ackerman is universally recognized as the preeminent pioneer in the new age music movement. The founder of Windham Hill Records, Ackerman's career spans more than three decades of remarkable vision, single-minded determination, fervent business savvy, and "a thorough love of the mystery of making music.

March 31 - 3:00pm: Wrapping up the month of March is the Saint Michael Trio, who will perform the works of Bed ich Smetana in Smetana Uncovered. Regarded in his homeland as the father of Czech music, Smetana is also known for pioneering the "nationalist" movement in Eastern European music. Using the trio's patented "informance" format, the Saint Michael Trio will explore one of Smetana's most sophisticated compositions, a work rooted in personal tragedy: the remarkably expressive "Piano Trio in G minor."
