A.C.T. Presents the Acclaimed Rock Opera WEIGHTLESS Image

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) Artistic Director Pam MacKinnon announced today that Weightless-the critically acclaimed rock opera by The Kilbanes, produced by Z Space and piece by piece productions-will play a limited engagement at A.C.T.'s Strand Theater (1127 Market St., San Francisco) April 30-May 12, 2019. Inspired by the story of Procne and Philomela from Ovid's Metamorphoses, Weightless weaves together myth with the Kilbanes' celebrated indie rock sound to tell a story of sisterhood, love, betrayal, and rebirth. Part concert, part play, part dream, Weightless is equal parts blistering rock show and bleeding-edge experimental theater. Press night will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2019. Tickets ($25-$65) are available now at the A.C.T. Box Office at 415.749.2228 or online at act-sf.org. Prices are subject to change without notice.

"Following sold-out shows at Z Space in 2018 and The Public Theater's Under the Radar Festival at BRIC in Brooklyn in early 2019, we are thrilled to be partnering with A.C.T. in bringing Weightless back to the Bay Area," said piece by piece productions' Wendy Vanden Heuvel and Z Space's Lisa Steindler. "Weightlessis a perfect example of our commitment to the ongoing process of developing new work. We have taken what we have learned in the past two iterations to create a new theatrical experience for our home audiences."

"Continuing A.C.T.'s tradition of presenting world-class performances and original theatrical events, I look forward to welcoming the Kilbanes and the cast of Weightless to The Strand Theater," said MacKinnon. "This uniquely San Francisco Bay Area production is sure to set the stage for a night of electrifying and captivating theater."

Starring Kate Kilbane and Dan Moses (The Kilbanes), Weightless features (in alphabetical order) Lila Blue, Julia Brothers, Dan Harris, and Joshua Pollock.

Under the direction of Becca Wolff, the creative team for Weightless includes Angrette McCloskey (Scenic Designer), Christine Crook (Costume Designer), Ray Oppenheimer (Lighting Designer), Hana S. Kim (Projection Designer), Greg T. Kuhn (Sound Designer), and Dan Moses (Music Direction).

Weightless was commissioned by Z Space and Encore Theater Company and won "Best of Fringe" at the San Francisco Fringe Festival in 2012. A concert version of the show made the San Francisco Chronicle's "Top Ten Theater Picks of 2016." In 2018, Weightless had its world premiere at Z Space and most recently, Weightless performed at The Public Theater's Under the Radar Festival in New York City in January 2019.

Weightless is executive produced by Kendra Bator and produced by Lisa Steindler, Z Space, and piece by piece productions.
