The New Mambo Kings is coming to the historic Starlight Theatre in Balboa Park for a three night limited engagement. Starlight Theatre is thrilled to announce that a new date of Sunday, August 2 nd has just been released to the public due to popular demand. When Starlight Theatre's new Guest Artistic Director, Carlos Mendoza, came onboard this year for the 63 rd Season at Starlight his desire was to bring a part of his cultural roots to current and prospective audiences.

Now you might be asking, "What is this show all about?" Well, are you a fan of Dancing with the Stars? If so, this show is JUST FOR YOU! The New Mambo Kings is a fiery musical revue, blending Latin American culture thru voice, music and dance. It's a fast paced and riveting musical revue with a dazzling variety of costumes, music and Latin dance styles, such as Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Cha?Cha, Samba, Tango, Rumba, Paso Doble and Boleros featured by a phenomenal cast. The flashy dance numbers complement the beautiful voices of its singers, who switch back and forth from singing in Spanish and English. It's energetic and heart?pounding Latin infused music. Join us in spending an evening out with your sexy twin hosts, Carlos and Mauricio Mendoza, who are The New Mambo Kings.

Carlos Mendoza (Conceiver, Producer and Singer): Carlos studied at the United States International University in San Diego where he earned a B.F.A. with an emphasis in Musical Theatre. He has performed, directed, choreographed and produced extensively throughout Southern California. Carlos is Artistic Director of Hispanic Arts Theatre, a new and innovative theatre company in San Diego and Starlight Theatre in Balboa Park.

Mr. Mendoza's concept for "The New Mambo Kings" was to create a show that combined Latin and American cultures through a variety of music and dance styles. With the rise in popularity of Latino artists and a growing interest in Latin dance, "The New Mambo Kings" appeals to audiences young and old, male and female, Anglo and Latino. Mr. Mendoza hopes the thrill, passion and excitement of "The New Mambo Kings" will help bring two diverse, beautiful cultures together. As a professional Equity stage actor, Carlos has been seen as Thuy in "Miss Saigon", Magaldi in "Evita", Rapunzel's Prince in "Into the Woods", Luntha in "King and I", Tomas in the West Coast premiere of "Matador", Bernardo in "West Side Story", Joseph in "Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and Joey in the world premiere of "Fantasma". He has also been featured on film and television in New Line Cinema's "Blow" Starring Johnny Depp, "Bold and the Beautiful", "Reyes y Rey", "Sueños de Fama" and "El Campeonato de Baile Latino" for Telemundo network and "Vital Signs" Starring Robert Urich.

Mauricio Mendoza (Actor, Singer): Mauricio holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Musical Theatre from the United States International University in San Diego. He also received his M.F.A. from the University of San Diego and The Old Globe Actor Professional Training Program. For the past ten years Mauricio has worked continuously in Los Angeles appearing in film, television and theatrical productions. Mr. Mendoza has completed three seasons as a series regular on Showtime's family drama "Resurrection Blvd" and previous to that on Telemundo and Sony tri?star series "Angeles". Film and television credits include "Judging Amy", "24", "King of Queens", "Babylon 5", "Numbers", "Sueños de Fama", "Search of Aztlan", "Never Trust a Serial Killer" and "Blow" starring Johnny Depp. While not starring on television, he works as a voice over artist appears in commercials and, of course as a stage actor, his first love. Some theatre credits include: "West Side Story" "Man of la Mancha", "Evita", "Zorro Live", "Much Ado About Nothing", "Taming of the Shrew", "Lalo Guerrero, The Musical", the world premier of "Fantasma" and just completed a successful run of a 1940's version of "Romeo and Juliet" at John Anson Ford for director Tony Plana.

Since 1946, Starlight Theatre has inspired and dazzled generations of theatre?goers, presenting live musical theatre under the stars each summer in beautiful Balboa Park. Performed outdoors, with live orchestra, and actors from San Diego and across the nation - audiences experience award?winning musical theatre in a unique and spectacular 3,575 seat setting!
