San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed and the San Jose City Council commended the Nederlander Company at today's city council meeting in celebration of the organization's century of promoting Broadway and concerts. For over 100 years, the Nederlander Organization has helped shape the theater and entertainment industry. The Nederlander Organization through Broadway San Jose and Nederlander Concerts promotes Broadway shows, concerts and special events to boost visitors and local jobs to San Jose's local theaters and nearby Downtown restaurants.

"The City of San Jose is proud to honor the Nederlander Organization as they celebrate their 100th anniversary." said Mayor Chuck Reed. "Nederlander has a track record of promoting quality Broadway shows, concerts and special events both across the nation and right here in our own community. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Nederlander to bring world-class entertainment to San Jose."

As part of a local partnership between the City of San Jose, Team San Jose and the Nederlander Organization, Broadway San Jose (local Nederlander production) is a premier presenter of touring Broadway shows at the city-owned Center for the Performing Arts and Nederlander Concerts promotes concerts and special events at the San Jose Civic, both theater venues located in the heart of Downtown San Jose.

"This is a momentous accomplishment for the Nederlander family," said Nick Scandalios Executive Vice President at Nederlander Producing Company of America, Inc. "Nederlander continues to guide and help shape the theatre industry and our partnership with San Jose is a successful one. We look forward to making Broadway and concert history in San Jose, the Capital of Silicon Valley".

Over the last three years, Broadway San Jose has presented 19 Broadway shows, two Bay Area premieres attracting 209,000 patrons to Downtown San Jose, and generating $47M in economic impact.
Nederlander Concerts in partnership with Team San Jose recently launched the newly renovated San Jose Civic, a historic indoor venue, located in Downtown San Jose, which hosts a variety of concerts, corporate events, family shows and special events. Nederlander Concerts, in cooperation with Team San Jose, has brought over 64 concerts and family shows to the San Jose Civic since 2009, attracting over 140,000 fans (not including private or special events). For over 76 years, the iconic venue has played host to legendary stars, including Duke Ellington, Buddy Holly, The Grateful Dead, The Who, Bob Dylan, Barbra Streisand, Cream, Frank Sinatra, and the Rolling Stones, among others.

"Nederlander has put San Jose center stage with live entertainment and theatre shows," said Bill Sherry, CEO of Team San Jose. "With the recent San Jose Civic grand re-opening and Broadway season officially in full swing, we look forward to a long partnership with Nederlander to attract top-notch Broadway shows and concerts that will draw thousands of patrons to Downtown San Jose. Their ability to customize concerts for groups has also given us a competitive edge in the meetings and conventions market, which brings millions of dollars in business and visitor spending to the local community."

Founded by David T. Nederlander in 1912, the Nederlander Organization is currently in its third generation of theatre development, ownership, management and production under the guidance of James M. Nederlander.
