Music is a universal language with the magical ability of bringing together people from all walks of life. This is one of the reasons why the San Diego Gay Men's Chorus (SDGMC) was formed nearly 30 years ago-to build bridges between the gay community and San Diegans everywhere. Since then, the chorus has performed at City Hall, Petco Park, the new public library and even at the White House.

In recognition of the chorus's outreach efforts, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), presented SDGMC with a major grant to go toward further musical outreach programs. SDG&E has a long-standing commitment to supporting diverse communities through charitable giving to non-profit organizations that promote community engagement.

"We are so grateful to SDG&E for its support and recognition of the work we do in San Diego," said Artistic Director Gary Holt. "With their help, we will be able to continue using our music to make our community an even better place for everyone."

The community outreach grant was presented by SDG&E and Sempra Energy Vice President Randy Clark and Community Relations Manager Lucia Stone. The support begins with SDGMC's 2013 holiday show and will extend throughout its 2014 season.

SDGMC's next performance is The Nutcracker (Men in Tights!) which opens Saturday, Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. with a matinee performance on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 3 p.m. at the Balboa Theatre adjacent to Horton Plaza in downtown San Diego. Tickets start at $27 and may be purchased at www.sdgmc.org or by calling (877) 296-7664.
