The Chance Theater is pleased to announce that it's 2009 production of HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical has been nominated for six Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle (LADCC) Awards.

The six nominations for HAIR include McCulloh Award for Revival, Direction (Oanh Nguyen), Music Direction (Bill Strongin), Choreography (Kelly Todd), Ensemble Performance, and CGI/Video (John MacDonald).

"These six nominations are quite meaningful to us," said Artistic Director Oanh Nguyen. "They are a firm recognition of the work that we put onstage in 2009. We're also honored that the critics were united in their praise for Hair and have nominated the Chance and its amazing artistic staff for these awards."

"The Chance is one of only two OC theaters nominated for LADCC awards this year, the other being South Coast Repertory," notes Managing Director Casey Long. "And to be nominated in categories where the other nominees range in budget size from our small organization to theatres that are much larger is especially gratifying. It's a testament to our tireless and talented resident ensemble, brilliant artists, and our entire family of supporters."

The Chance was previously recognized by the LADCC with the Polly Warfield Award for Excellence in 2007 for "an excellent season in a small to mid-size theater." Their production of Hair was the first to meet the eligibility requirements for an LADCC production award.

The Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle was founded in 1969. It is dedicated to excellence in theatrical criticism, and to the encouragement and improvement of theatre in Greater Los Angeles. The 41st Annual Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards ceremony, hosted by actor Jason Graae, will take place on March 22 at the Colony Theatre in Burbank. The co-host will be critic Wenzel Jones. Awards will be given in 20 categories, honoring excellence in theatre over the past year. Eight special awards will also be given, including an award honoring Kirk Douglas for his lifetime contribution to Los Angeles theatre.
