Broadway San Diego has just announced its 2010-2011 season. Broadway San Diego is a part of the nationally recognized Nederlander Producing Company of America - one of the country's largest and most experienced operators of live theater.  The upcoming season is as follows:

 

October 12 - 17, 2010- BURN THE FLOOR- Civic Theatre

Burn The Floor is a breathtaking blend of Latin and Ballroom dance first conceived as a special performance at Sir Elton John's 50th birthday celebration in 1997. Direct from a record-breaking run on Broadway, the international dance sensation features new dances and choreography never seen on tour before. It takes audiences on a journey through the passionate drama of dance. The elegance of the Viennese Waltz, the exuberance of Jive, the intensity of the Paso Doble-audiences experience them all, as well as the Tango, Samba, Mambo, Quickstep and Swing. It's Ballroom-reinvented. 


October 26 - 31, 2010 - DISNEY'S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST - Civic Theatre

The Most Beautiful Love Story Ever Told Comes To Life! The lush, romantic Broadway musical for all generations. Tale As Old As Time, True As It Can Be. Disney's Beauty and the Beast, the smash hit Broadway musical, is coming to San Diego. Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature film, this eye-popping spectacle has won the hearts of over 35 million people worldwide. 


December 3 - 5, 2010 - THE COLOR PURPLE - Civic Theatre

The Color Purple, a soul-stirring musical based on the classic Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker and the moving film by Steven Spielberg. It is the unforgettable and inspiring story of a woman named Celie, who finds her unique voice in the world. Nominated for eleven Tony® Awards, The Color Purple is a landmark theatrical event, a celebration of love, and a Broadway phenomenon. 


January 4-9, 2011- WEST SIDE STORY - Civic Theatre

More than fifty years ago one musical changed theater forever. Now it's back on Broadway mesmerizing audiences once again. From the first note to the final breath, West Side Story soars as the greatest love story of all time. 


January 18-23, 2011 - NEXT TO NORMAL - Balboa Theatre

From the director of Rent comes Next to Normal, an emotional powerhouse of a musical with a thrilling contemporary score about a family trying to take care of themselves and each other. Winner of three 2009 Tony Awards® including Best Score, Next to Normal is the most talked about new show on Broadway, having recently been chosen as "one of the year's ten best" by major critics around the country.

February 15-20, 2011 - THE WIZARD OF OZ - Civic Theatre

There truly is no place like home as the greatest family musical of all time, the wonderful Wizard of Oz, twists its way across the country! The entire family will be captivated as they travel down the Yellow Brick Road and beyond with Dorothy, Toto and their friends the Cowardly Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow in this lavish production, featuring breathtaking special effects, dazzling choreography and classic songs.  


April 19-24, 2011 - STOMP - Balboa Theatre

STOMP is explosive, provocative, sophisticated, sexy, utterly unique and appeals to audiences of all ages. The international percussion sensation has garnered an armful of awards and rave reviews, and has appeared on numerous national television shows. The eight-member troupe uses everything but conventional percussion instruments - matchboxes, wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, hubcaps - to fill the stage with magnificent rhythms. 


May 31-June 5, 2011 MAMMA MIA! Civic Theatre

A Guaranteed, Get Happy, Dancing-in-the-aisles hit! Night after night on Broadway, or a city near you; the lights dim, the music swells and the best time you can have in the theatre begins. It's MAMMA MIA!, the ultimate feel-good show that has audiences coming back again and again to relive the thrill. July 5-10, 2011 - SHREK THE MUSICAL - Civic Theatre

SHREK THE MUSICAL, based on the Oscar®-winning DreamWorks film that started it all, brings the hilarious story of everyone's favorite ogre to life on the stage. In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre - not a handsome prince - shows up to rescue a feisty princess.

HAIR won the 2009 Tony Award® for Best Musical Revival and is currently playing on Broadway where it also received the Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle award for Outstanding Revival of a Musical. The story of a group of young Americans searching for love and peace during the Vietnam era, HAIR is a timeless portrait of a movement that changed the world. Its groundbreaking rock score paved the way for some of the greatest musicals of our time.
