Calling all hip shakers! The Bellydance Superstars are returning to San Diego with a new and exciting show, BOMBAY BELLYWOOD, at the Balboa Theatre, Sunday October 3, 2010 at 3pm. For the 2010-2011 season this internationally acclaimed troupe has added an array of exciting Indian dance styles, including Bollywood and Bhangra, into their already varied mix of Bellydance styles that include Egyptian Cabaret to American Tribal styles. Take the opportunity to chat with one of the dancers, as well as creator of Bellydance Superstars, MiLes Copeland! They are available for advance phone interviews and would love to have a talk about their experiences in the Bellydance world!

San Diego native Kami Liddle has studied various dance styles throughout her life, but found Bellydance was her true passion when she was 18 years old. She began to study cabaret style bellydance until she found Fat Chance Belly Dance and began to study their videos religiously. Today, Kami refers to her style as a modern fusion of an ancient dance. Kami has earned a degree in Art with a Minor in Dance from the University of Nevada, Reno and has been nominated for 'Best Interpretive Artist" for 2005 and 2007 by Zaghareet Magazine. She joined Bellydance Superstars in 2005 and is a contributing choreographer as well as the director of the Tribal Superstars. Kami recently relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area but enjoys coming back to San Diego to see her family.

Petite Jamilla brings an award winning style that escapes definition, and talent that is inescapable. This Southern Beauty has been bellydancing her entire life, and charming her way across the world. Petite Jamilla is carrying on her mother Jamilla Rasa's legacy, by bridging the generation gap between the traditional folkloric style and modern bellydance fusion. She's been performing and studying her eclectic style of bellydance intensively for over 11 years. She became a professional and toured the Southeast U.S. at the age of 15, a seasoned instructor by 17, and by the time she was 19, she had 2 independently filmed instructional DVD's on the market.

Creator MiLes Copeland is one of the music industry's most influential figures.  Copeland's career in management stretches back almost 40 years to when he put together a group of go-go dancers in Beirut. In London in the 1970s, he represented Wishbone Ash, Joan Armatrading and all sides of progressive rock until he jumped ship, landed in the turbulent ocean of punk, and worked with the Sex Pistols, the Clash, Blondie, etc. In 1978, he became agent for his brother Stewart's band, The Police, one of the biggest bands of the 1980s. He went on to manage Sting (solo) through seven blockbuster albums in the late 1980s, and introduced Sting to Algerian Raï singer, Cheb Mami, in 1999. Their collaboration bloomed with "Desert Rose," a breakthrough for Arab music that crossed over into mainstream American music and became a phenomenal hit. He has taken the ancient art of bellydancing into the mainstream with the creation of Bellydance Superstars. His affinity for Arab music and culture comes from a youth spent growing up in the Middle East and since September 11, 2001, he has been on a mission to introduce the arts and culture of the region to the West.

Bellydance Superstars truly have lived up to their name.  Not only are the troupe's members superlative disciplined dancers, they have gained worldwide recognition and now number among the world's most famous dancers for good reason.  There is no doubt that BOMBAY BELLYWOOD will further secure their title as claimed by the Sunday Times of London "The most important dance troupe in the world."
