What can be said about a show like UNBROKEN CIRCLE? The production penned by JAMES WESLEY is currently playing at the Woodlawn Theatre and I can report that once I was done wiping my tears away and finally catching a breath all I could say was WOW! The story is a family drama set in the 1970s in Galveston, Texas and like any family has their secrets, which either binds them together or blows them apart. It is had to give a great plot summary because it would cause way to many spoilers for this show. Director GREG HINOJOSA put most of his focus on the actors and the stories they tell create top notch performances. Three standouts are SHERRIE SHIRKY as Ruby, MEREDITH BELL ALVAREZ as Edna, and BETH ERWIN as Cheryl. These three play some of the most moving characters written for women, Ruby being the true patriarch of the family, Edna as the sister who got away and the truly loving mother and wife Cheryl These three are played by the some of the strongest dramatic actresses of San Antonio

One can not confuse this play with Arthur Millers DEATH OF A SALESMAN, because there are moments that are light hearted in nature the standout of which comes from ANGELA ABBOT HOEFFLER who plays the crazy aunt that we all have in our families, Aunt June. ANGELA steals the show with her perfect comedic timing.

This is truly an excellent show with one minor downfall. The set. While very functional it is not very appealing to the human eye but as I said it is a minor thing because most of the time you won't be looking at the set rather the actors truly giving it their all. I could not recommend this show enough James is a modern day Neil Simon with a perfect understanding of the marriage between drama and comedy. UNBROKEN CIRCLE is nearly flawless and should not be missed for any reason at all.
