9 TO 5: THE MUSICAL Punches In at the Majestic

By:

If you've ever poured yourself a cup of ambition in the morning to be able to face the upcoming 9:00-5:00 workday, Dolly Parton has a paycheck waiting for you at the Majestic Theatre.

Based on her 1980 hit film 9 to 5, Dolly (with the help of original screenplay writer Patricia Resnick) has created a fun new show, 9 to 5: The Musical.  Packed with all new songs penned by Dolly (don't worry, the title song is present throughout!), 9 to 5: The Musical follows the trials and tribulations of three women working in dead-end secretarial jobs for a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigoted boss and what happens when they join forces to overcome office oppression.

9 to 5: The Musical stars Season 3 American Idol finalist Diana DeGarmo as buxom blonde Doralee Rhodes.  Her Dolly (nee Doralee) impression is cute and accurate, and she fit the role quite well.  Broadway vet Dee Hoty plays no-b.s.-havin', ambitious Violet Newstead, a part that seem to come as second-nature to the actress.  Rounding out the vivacious threesome as mousey (but not for long) Judy Bernly is Mamie Parris.  Together, they had wonderful chemistry and their vocals blended wonderfully.  Joseph Mahowald plays the convincing sleazy boss, Franklin Hart, Jr.  Kristine Zbnorik's Roz and Jane Blass's Margaret provide ample laughs in supporting roles.

Playing in San Antonio through December 12, 9 to 5: The Musical is a fun, feel-good show great for a girls' night out.  Tickets are on sale now at the Majestic Theatre box office or online through Broadway Across America.
