UtahPresents to Bring globalFEST Creole Carnival to U of U Campus

By:

Extending Carnival season, globalFEST's Creole Carnival Tour, stopping at Kingsbury Hall on March 31, honors African musical currents alongside a fusion of sounds from the Americas, that have ignited the sounds of Carnival, the pre-Lent festival celebrated globally that's everyone's favorite excuse for a party.

Part of the UtahPresents season, globalFEST Creole Carnival will perform at Kingsbury Hall on Thursday, March 31 at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $20, with a $5 ticket for U of U students and a $10 ticket for non-U students and youth under 18, and are available at 801-581-7100 or utahpresents.org. A preshow party with food trucks and music will take place on the Kingsbury Hall plaza starting at 6PM.

Over the past decade, globalFEST has become one of the most dynamic and popular global music festivals in the country. Based in NYC, this musical phenomenon is bringing down boundaries between countries and now, with the first national tour of past globalFEST artists, is also crossing state lines.

From Brazil (Casuarina) - the superpower of celebration - to Haiti (Emeline Michel) and Jamaica (Brushy One String), each culture has its own rich traditions of music, dance, costumes, and cutting loose. The tour's international trio of artists will delve into the musical riches of Carnival, and explore how magic and religious fervor intersect in a madcap, no-holds-barred soiree. The evening features:

Brushy One String: Jamaican music soaked in soul, played on a single unstoppable guitar string

Emeline Michel: Shimmering, rhythmic sounds with a call for change and hope from Haiti's leading lady

Casuarina: Rio's modern Afro-Brazilian samba stars play timeless classics and their own songs
