Utah Cultural Celebration Center Presents "Storytelling Through Art and Artifact" Exhibit

By:

Come celebrate a Jordan River Renaissance and the opening of Reawakened Beauty: Tillman Crane's Jordan River Photographs. The 9 mural sized photographs selected from Tillman Crane's book A Walk Along the Jordan truly capture a sense of place that is sacred and profane; beautiful and flawed in the black and white collection.

ARTrageous Educational Program: Join us of a guided tour and discussion of the traveling photo documentary exhibit promoting conservation on the Jordan River. The tour will be followed by a site walk to The Edge of the Jordan River and a hands on arts making experience lead by Polly Parkinson. Students will explore watercolor pencil technique and botanical illustration using samples collected from the river's edge.

Exhibit Hours January 14 (after 2:30 p.m.) - March 1, 2010 Monday - Thursday 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and by special arrangement

Everyone is invited to view the exhibition free of charge. Did you know that the Jordan River essentially separated the early settlement in the eastern part of our valley from the wild and wooly west? A journal entry from explorer Jedediah Smith noted that crossing the river (Jordan) presented difficulty and that he was "very much strangled" in his attempt (June, 1827). One hundred and eighty-two years later, the Jordan River unites 15 thriving east/west municipalities in three counties, and provides a canvas for a future urban oasis, with restored wetlands, migratory habitat, recreational amenities and a draw for economic sustainability.
