Plan-B Theatre Company continues its 25th Season with BOOKSMART, the company's second World Premiere in partnership with the David Ross Fetzer Foundation for Emerging Artists, aka The Davey Foundation.

BOOKSMART is a dark comedy about working retail during the holidays, underemployment, income inequality, job insecurity and crushing debt. Oh, and the true meaning of Christmas.

The holiday rush has hit the bookstore. Casey (Tyson Baker) has had it up to here with his job, as well as rude customers, and makes a momentous decision. Will his equally harried co-workers (Anne Brings, Joe Crnich, April Fossen, Sarah Young) join him in his protest or will they talk him back onto the sales floor?

From first-time playwright Rob Tennant. Directed by Jerry Rapier.

About The Davey Foundation: David Fetzer created roles in three Plan-B productions prior to untimely death: THE END OF THE HORIZON and THE THIRD CROSSING by Debora Threedy and THE SCARLET LETTER by Jenifer Nii.

"When some of us formed the Foundation to encourage and mentor emerging (35-or-under) playwrights and filmmakers, we approached Plan-B with the idea of joining with them to provide a grant that would subsidize (in a very SMALL way) the production of a new play by an emerging Utah playwright. It was a risky endeavor, as the number of emerging Utah playwrights might not be large enough to justify a full production of a play in Plan-B's season. Nevertheless, Plan-B jumped in wholly, bodily, totally unreservedly. The result thus far has been two amazing plays, MAMA by Carleton Bluford and BOOKSMART by Rob Tennant, first plays for each truly up-and-coming Utah playwright." - Betsy Ross, Executive Director, The Davey Foundation
