RDT Presents A Choreographic Showcase Featuring Work By The RDT Dancers & Staff

Returning for the third season, Repertory Dance Theatre presents an evening of choreography by the RDT dancers and Artistic Staff. EMERGE, January 4-5, 2018 in the intimate Leona Wagner Black Box Theatre at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, features all new work.

RDT prides itself on being not only a revolutionary institution of modern dance, but also an incubator for dancers and choreographers. RDT dancers are encouraged to be technically proficient dancers, inspiring teachers, as well as innovative choreographers.

EMERGE will feature work by eight of the current RDT dancers. Two members of the Artistic Staff (Executive/Artistic Director Linda C. Smith and Artistic Associate Nicholas Cendese) will be presenting work as well. Choreography will feature RDT company members and guest dancers from the community, and pieces will range from solos to larger group ensembles.

Fifth-year company member, Dan Higgins, will present Masc, a duet that explores the meaning of masculinity. Last year, Higgins premiered his own evening-length performance "In. Memory. Of" as part of RDT's Link Series. Les Roka of The Utah Review stated "Higgins...is among a new generation of creative entrepreneurs in the Utah Enlightenment... [In. Memory. Of] takes its merited place in the canon of definitive works of dance movement theater."

Megan O'Brien, the Company's Education Associate and guest dancer, will premiere a solo work titled, "much more" where she explores the difficulty of accepting who you are now while knowing there is still a ways to go.

RDT's Executive/Artistic Director, Linda C. Smith, will be choreographing a solo on Company Member, Efren Corado Garcia. This will be Garcia's final season dancing with RDT after six years with the Company.

In addition to the pieces the dancers have been working on over the past few months, EMERGE will also feature a work created during show week by Dan Higgins, featuring dancers from the WINTERDANCE WORKSHOP (January 2-4).
