New Century Dance Project Coming to Salt Lake City in August

By:

On August 18-20, 2016 a new dance festival will launch in Salt Lake City. New Century Dance Project, the brain-child of Los Angeles-based choreographer and teacher Francisco Gella (RDT dancer 1996-1998), brings together professional dancers and companies from Utah and beyond to share their expertise and artistic excellence with young aspiring dancers training for their future.

"There is no question that dance in the contemporary era has reached an epic level of popularity," says Gella. "The challenge is to maintain a level of excellence in artistry and training that the art form deserves. By breaking down the barriers between diverse styles and genres of dance, New Century will bring together some of the very best young dancers to perform with and be mentored by professional dancers and companies. "

The festival will bring together dancers and companies for a closing festival performance at the University of Utah's Hayes Christensen Theatre on Saturday evening August 20. Companies include Utah's own Repertory Dance Theatre, Ballet West II, SALT Contemporary Dance, BYU Contemporary Dance Ensemble, Creative Arts Academy, Center Stage Performing Arts, as well as some of the finest youth companies from across the United States including Bunker Dance Center's Nevada Youth Dance Company, The Dance Studio of Fresno, and Columbia City Jazz Company.

Leading up to the concert, advanced and intermediate dancers ages 10-22 are invited to register for workshops, master classes and mentoring opportunities with some of the nations most respected dance educators, choreographers and performers. Any student meeting the criteria may register for the festival classes and workshops pass, and all member of the public are invited to attend the closing festival concert.

New Century Dance Project is being produced by Creative Arts Academy, and supported by Repertory Dance Theatre. For festival details, concert tickets, and passes to the concert after-party, and to register for master classes/workshops, please go to https://newcenturydanceproject.org .

Festival workshop/master classes are $200/dancer, concert tickets are $10/student and $15/non-student, and after-party tickets purchases in advance are $10/person.
