Darlene Love with Muscle Shoals Live Plays Deer Valley Resort's Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater August 4, 2013

By:

"One of the greatest singers of all time," according to Rolling Stone, Darlene Love steps into the St. Regis Big Stars, Bright Nights spotlight on Sunday, August 4. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee will be joined by a one-night-only selection of similarly profound musicians hailing from Muscle Shoals, a hotbed of talent and stardom known as the "Singing River." Show starts at 7 p.m.Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Concert will be held at Deer Valley Resort's Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater.

The idea for a Darlene Love and Muscle Shoals concert grew out of two musical films that rocked Sundance Film Festival this past January. The faces and voices from "Twenty Feet from Stardom" and "Muscle Shoals" lend their rich, melodic stories to a groundbreaking, live concert.

"It's the perfect pairing: the incredible Darlene Love and the extraordinary music rooted in Muscle Shoals," says PCPAF executive director Teri Orr, who curated the evening. "This is not a regularly touring show. This event is truly one-of-a-kind."

The "thunderbolt voice" (New York Times) of Darlene Love, the "Twenty Feet From Stardom" star, easily captures the limelight. Though she was the quintessential backup singer who recorded and performed alongside Elvis, The Beach Boys, The Righteous Brothers, Sonny & Cher..., Love has carved out a well-earned solo career. Since her first No. 1 recording, "He's A Rebel," she's rolled out a slew of hits (such as "Da Doo Ron Ron" and "He's Sure the Boy I'm Gonna Marry"). This gospel-rooted, 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee is rock n' roll wrapped in a glorious, lord-have-mercy, booming voice. She's also performed on Broadway and the silver screen (Lethal Weapon) and written an autobiography.

Named for the little Alabama town that drew some of rock and R&B's biggest names (Aretha Franklin, Dylan, the Stones) to its recording studio and produced decades of hit tunes, such as "Wild Horses" and "Mustang Sally," Muscle Shoals Live brings the "Singing River" to the mountains. The concert includes artists, such as David Hood of the Swampers, Harvey Thompson of the Muscle Shoals Horns, Angela Primm of Still Waters, jazz musician and vocalist Thomas Cain and some surprise stars.

RELATED EVENTS AND DISCOUNTS: Local non-profits are teaming up to augment the weekend's abundant offerings. PCPAF has collaborated with the Park City Kimball Arts Festival and will be offering a 20% discount on lawn tickets to arts festival wristband holders. And Sundance Institute will screen "Muscle Shoals" on the Town Lift Plaza on Friday evening, Aug. 2 at 9 p.m.
