Utah Repertory Theater Company announces the regional premiere of "Ordinary Days" - the Off-Broadway hit musical called "extraordinarily charming" (Washington Post) and "quietly affecting" (New York Times).

"Ordinary Days" runs July 10-25 at the Sugar Space Studio Theater in Sugar House.

Director Chase Ramsey cites the popular TV sitcom "Friends" as similar to "Ordinary Days" with music by the emerging composer Adam Gwon.

"The comparison to 'Friends' is understandable because 'Ordinary Days' also has fun characters we can relate to who are in everyday situations of love and establishing rewarding relationships with others," Ramsey said. "Everyone enjoys a good episode of 'Friends,' and 'Ordinary Days' has the same appeal and charm. And with great music by an emerging new voice in musical theater."

The New York Times review of the original Off-Broadway production proclaimed: "'Ordinary Days' introduces a promising newcomer to our talent-hungry musical theater, the composer and lyricist Adam Gwon. Mr. Gwon writes crisp, fluid and often funny lyrics that reflect the racing minds of the four New Yorkers on a nervous search for their immediate futures."

The Washington Post review calls the musical "a sweet and tender survey of four youngish New Yorkers, fighting through the emotional noise and dramatic traffic to arrive at a clearer sense of who they are and what they want to be. It's a beguiling little tale, set to composer Adam Gwon's effervescent, urban-romantic melodies."

According to Ramsey, "'Ordinary Days' leads you on a journey of laughs and sarcastic exhilaration and takes a sharp turn towards earnest theme and conflict. The musical stories are honest, funny, moving, and paints the most precise picture of what it feels like to feeling enjoyably alive."

"Ordinary Days" is a refreshingly honest and funny musical about making real connections in the city that never sleeps. The series of funny and fortuitous events in this intimate, fast-paced musical proves that ordinary days can be simply extraordinary. Beauty can be found in the ordinary, and every day can become extraordinary.

"For beautiful to happen, the beautiful has got to be seen" is a revealing lyric of "Ordinary Days."
