Years before Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance turned ballroom dancing into must-see TV, one sizzling show was setting stages ablaze around the globe. "BURN THE FLOOR", the electrifying Latin and Ballroom dance spectacular that has thrilled audiences in more than 30 countries, brings the fire and passion of their live performance to the Sacramento Community Center Theater stage for two weeks only, September 29-October 10, 2010.
"BURN THE FLOOR" is a breathtaking blend of Latin and Ballroom dance first conceived as a special performance at Sir Elton John's 50th birthday celebration in 1997. Two years later, the show made its world premiere in the U.K. and quickly took the globe by storm.
From Harlem's hot nights at The Savoy, where dances such as the Lindy, Foxtrot and Charleston were born, to the Latin Quarter where the Cha-Cha, Rumba and Salsa steamed up the stage, "BURN THE FLOOR" takes audiences on a journey through the passionate drama of dance. "BURN THE FLOOR" brings the talents of 20 award-winning international dancers from around the globe-Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Russia, Australia, Sweden, The Philippines and the U.S.-and includes Australian Ballroom and World Latin American champions.
"IN THE HEIGHTS" comes to the Sacramento Community Center Theater for two weeks only, November 3-14. "IN THE HEIGHTS" tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York's Washington Heights neighborhood - a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It's a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind.
"IN THE HEIGHTS" opened on Broadway to wide critical acclaim March 9, 2008. The Washington Post said "IN THE HEIGHTS" is "Pure Broadway. An evening of old-style, innocent pleasure" and Ben Brantley of The New York Times enthused "IN THE HEIGHTS" is "An exuberant, animated shrine to the importance of family ties and being faithful to where you come from."
