Playhouse Merced Opens THE MUSIC MAN, 5/25
"The Music Man," a musical comedy about a con man trying to swindle the residents of 1912 River City, Iowa. begins a three-weekend run on The Playhouse Merced mainstage Friday, May 25, 2012 at 7:30 pm
"The Music Man" is Harold Hill, who poses as a marching band organizer and leader, and tries to swindle the unsuspecting residents of River City, Iowa. When Hill meets local librarian Marian Paroo, he has second thoughts. With music and lyrics by Meredith Willson, "The Music Man" features popular and well-known tunes like "Trouble," "Shipoopi," "'Til There Was You" and "The Wells Fargo Wagon." Debuted on Broadway in 1957 and winner of Tony award for Best Musical, "The Music Man" is one of the most popular shows in musical theatre.
Playhouse Merced's production is directed by Chenté Cervantes, musically directed by Joel Scott Shade and features Fresno resident, Peter Allwine as Harold Hill, and Merced resident Melissa Beckwith as Marian Paroo. The production features a cast of over 35 actors, singers and dancers, with detailed costumes by Cindy Strauss and a set designed by Corey Strauss.

"The Music Man" opens Friday, May 25, 2012 and plays three weekends through June 10, 2012. Tickets are on sale now for Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 and Sunday matinees at 2:00.
