Theatre Professor Wins Embassy Grant to Produce Play on Violence in Pakistan
Ithaca College Theatre Professor Kathleen has been awarded her second grant from the U.S. Embassy in Pakistan to produce a play that addresses the issue of violence in public spaces in Pakistan. Mulligan and her collaborators will travel to Pakistan and work with a local theatre group, Theatre Wallay, to develop the play. The play will then be performed in both Pakistan and the U.S. While in the U.S., Theatre Wallay actors will gather information on Americans feelings' about violence in public spaces that will later be incorporated into the play.
With mass violence affecting the citizens of both Pakistan and the U.S., Mulligan hopes that her play will create a spirit of mutual understanding between the two countries:
"We want to help Pakistanis and Americans to realize that we are both the victims of this kind of violence and to see what that has done to our feeling of safety and community in public spaces."
You can learn more about the play on the Ithaca College website.
