SCRIPTWORKS 2024! is a script reading event supporting emerging playwrights to explore and share new works.

Featuring My Better Half by Evan Bawtinheimer, On-the-rag Dolls by Allison Fradkin and an excerpt from Leave Nothing Unsaid by Jack Burrill

ScriptWorks Toronto presents ScriptWorks 2024! An evening to celebrate brilliant new playwrights and bring to life new scripts with readings from Evan Bawtinheimer, Allison Fradkin and Jack Burril. ScriptWorks will present each playwright with the opportunity to workshop their plays in rehearsal, and along with professional actors they will present a staged reading to industry professionals, their peers and the general public. With a live Q&A and the constructive perspective of an outside eye, each playwright will achieve an important exploratory step in their writing process.

The following new plays will be debuted and read by talented actors Jonnie Lombard, Jameson Mosher, Miranda Wiseman, Jessa Richer and Catherine Gava :

My Better Half by Evan Bawtinheimer

Russel and Maria, a high school couple, plan their future while dealing with a mental health crisis. An emotional deep dive into the consequences of bi-polar disorder on developing young relationships.

On-the-rag Dolls by Allison Fradkin

It's Casual Friday, and three friends from church are congregating for their weekly sleepover. But they can't relax. They're too busy minding their P's and ignoring their Q's. Because the answer to everything is purity, piety, progeny. Period! When one of the girls starts seeing red, will the onset of menstruation be cause for celebration? Or will the ability for fertility inspire hostility?

An excerpt from Leave Nothing Unsaid by Jack Burrill

Leave Nothing Unsaid is a story about seeking forgiveness. After the passing of her mother Jamie Cadell reaches out to her estranged father to make amends. Her father, Eugene, makes it difficult to mend bridges as he is constantly distracted with writing his novel and his drinking. Jamie has to confront her own pain and find a way to let go. Will Eugene ever be ready to apologize?
