The Wilbury Theatre Group is delighted to announce the appointment of Tony Caparelli as managing director of the theater, effective May 1, 2015.

Caparelli had been serving as the theater's interim managing director since last June when the rapid growth of the organization and the success of our 2013-14 season made the addition of a new managing director clear to the board.

Board President James Tackach explains, "Like all of us, Tony has passion for great theatre and is eager to work to continue to make the Wilbury Group an important player in the regional theatre field. When he indicated that he was willing to continue on a more permanent basis, he gave The Wilbury Group an incredible opportunity to move forward with a seasoned professional familiar with the inner workings of the Group and attuned to the specific opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. With his previous tenure as a member of the board, coupled with his vast experience in the arts and nonprofit arena, Tony's appointment was a no-brainer."

Founding Artistic Director Josh Short adds, "We are very fortunate to bring on a managing director of Tony's caliber and experience. He not only brings his enthusiasm and vision to the Group, but his commitment to both the organization and the Rhode Island arts and nonprofit community has been unparalleled. I look forward to partnering with Tony for many seasons to come and together continuing to lead The Wilbury Group as it grows."

Says Caparelli, "I'm thrilled to take on the permanent role as managing director for the Wilbury Group and to continue our efforts to build a strong, vibrant company. Working with the board, Josh and the entire artistic staff inspires me to make this personal investment in the company as we strive to elevate its position as a leader in Rhode Island contemporary theater. I look forward to helping establish the bridge that will bring our work to the greater Providence arts and culture scene and to engaging the support of the community at large. I am especially honored that those with whom I've worked over the last year and a half feel the same way. I consider them all true partners in this endeavor and eagerly anticipate great things to come."

Tony Caparelli began his career in theatre as a member of the production staff at the Magic Theatre in San Francisco in 1988. His lighting, sound and set design resume grew to include concert, opera and performance art, and ranged from Van Morrison to the University of the Virgin Islands. Moving into management, Tony has served such diverse roles as Production Manager, Program Director, General Manager, and Executive Director for organizations from San Francisco to Minneapolis, Boston to St. Thomas. www.thewilburygroup.org/about.
