Theatre By The Sea owner and producer Bill Hanney, Producing Artistic Director Amiee Turner and Managing Producer Joel Kipper are proud to continue Theatre By The Sea's 2009 Children's Festival with The Last Dragon on Earth presented by Crabgrass Puppet Theatre on Friday, August 7, 2009.

For as long as anyone can remember, princes have killed dragons and rescued princesses. It's the way things have always been done. But what happens if the princess doesn't need rescuing, and the dragon to be killed is the very last one on Earth? This modern fairy tale is a wonderful introduction to the concept of species extinction and is brought to life by the Crabgrass Puppet Theatre with their trademark blend of beautiful puppets, fabulous scenery, and hysterically funny action.

Jamie Keithline and Bonny Hall formed Crabgrass Puppet Theatre in San Francisco in 1982 and have delighted audiences across the nation with their whimsical humor and puppetry. Not only do Jamie and Bonny perform all of their shows, but they design and build all of the puppets and sets, write the scripts and record the soundtracks. Now residents of Halifax, Vermont, they continue to tour throughout the U.S., performing in schools, museums and theaters. Their performing venues have included the Detroit Institute of Art, the Smithsonian, Paper Mill Playhouse, Tribeca Performing Arts Center, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and dozens of regional and national puppetry festivals. In 2001 Jamie and Bonny were honored by their peers when their production Anansi, Spiderman of Africa! was awarded an UNIMA-USA Citation of Excellence, the highest honor in American puppetry. This honor was repeated in 2005 with the receipt of a second UNI award for The Bremen Town Musicians. In 2008, Bonny received a Commendation for Design in the Puppet Theatre by the Arlyn Award Foundation for The Day It Snowed Tortillas, which was performed during Theatre By The Sea's Children's Festival last summer.

After the performance, families can enjoy cold drinks, pizza and cookies, which will be available for purchase at the gazebo.

The Last Dragon on Earth will be presented on Friday, August 7, 2009 at 10:00 am and 12:00 noon. The theatre is located at 364 Cards Pond Road, Matunuck, RI. Single tickets are $10.00 each.
