PPAC Mourn the Passing of Bruce Sundlun

By: Jul. 22, 2011

The Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) and Professional Facilities Management (PFM) mourn the loss of former Rhode Island Governor Bruce Sundlun, who passed away Thursday, July 21, 2011 at the age of 91.

PPAC and PFM President J.L. "Lynn" Singleton said, "Bruce was a very dear friend of PPAC's and we are very sorry to learn of his passing. Bruce was instrumental in saving the Theatre in the 1970s, and we are grateful for his guidance and perseverance. He was tireless in his efforts to keep PPAC moving forward and he was an exceptional problem-solver; Bruce holds a unique place in PPAC's and Rhode Island's history. We send our condolences to his family during this sad time."

Current PPAC Board of Trustees Chairman Joseph W. Walsh, Esq., said, "As the first Chairman of the Board of PPAC, Bruce provided the leadership and vision which enabled PPAC to be the successful institution that it is today. He will be sorely missed by all members of the PPAC community."

PPAC staff members have fond memories of hosting the Governor's 90th Birthday at the Theatre in January 2010. It was heartwarming to see Governor Sundlun, his family, and many well-wishers here for that joyous occasion.

Governor Sundlun was the Chairman of PPAC's Board of Trustees from 1978 to 1990; he also served as an ex-officio PPAC Board of Trustees Member while he was Governor. Governor Sundlun served on PFM's Board of Directors from 1997 to 2011.
