PPAC Founders Award Recipients Announced

By:

Providence Mayor Angel Taveras officially dedicated the new PPAC Square during a brief ceremony in front of the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) this morning. PPAC Board of Trustees Chairman Joseph W. Walsh, Esq. introduced Mayor Taveras and said the following, “PPAC is very grateful to Mayor Taveras for his strong leadership in bringing this project to fruition for all to enjoy. We’d also like to thank the City of Providence – Department of Public Works, Cardi Corporation, Cataldo Associates, and Beta Engineering, Inc. for the support, time, labor, and resources that they devoted to create this new, beautiful PPAC Square.”

Mayor Taveras said, “[PPAC Square] is a signature spot, not only in our city, but in our state. This is a great example of government and private sector coming together to make something positive happen. Better days are ahead for our city and for our state.”

During the dedication ceremony, Walsh and PPAC President J.L. “Lynn” Singleton presented Rhode Island Governor Lincoln D. Chafee with the PPAC Founders Award. Singleton said, “Governor Chafee was instrumental in securing federal funds for the construction of PPAC Square. PPAC is very appreciative of his efforts, and we are very pleased to present the Founders Award to him today.”

The Founders Award was created by PPAC’s Board of Trustees and recognizes individuals who have significantly contributed to the preservation and development of the Theatre. Past Founders Awards recipients include Governor Bruce Sundlun, Mayor Vincent A. Cianci, Jr., Robert E. Freeman, Lincoln W.N. Pratt, Howard N. Kay, J. Joseph Kruse, and Mrs. B.A. (Sylvia) Dario.
