‘The Outsiders’ stays gold in striking new musical at Civic Center
From: Oklahoma City Free Press | Date: 9/2/2026
While you can easily draw comparisons to the popular “West Side Story,” with the teenage gangs and the star crossed relationships between the male and female leads, the most memorable parts of the book for me- the insecure contemplation and intimate conversations- were not something I could easily envision translating to a big Broadway musical. But the musical is able to maintain the novel’s more subtle moments and even injects some lightheartedness.
