Blackness takes center stage in ‘The Wiz’ revival: A complete review
“The Wiz” is a revival of a classic that is well worth seeing. It does a good job of calling back to the iconic film and bringing the story of the original Broadway show while still making space for its own flavor. The voices, the dancers, the set and the story all culminate in a show that emphasizes Blackness in the most beautiful way. “The Wiz” is it.
‘MJ: The Musical’ feels pretty close to the real thing
Each of the three versions of Michael delivered, but Roman Banks — the oldest MJ and pseudo-narrator of the show — is almost like a reincarnation of the pop star. The inflections in Banks’ voice, his singing and his movements were everything I would expect from the King of Pop. At one point in the show, someone yelled, “Go ‘head, Mike!” It was like the audience had forgotten Banks wasn’t the real thing.
