As a result of the continued concerns regarding the Corona Virus (COVID-19) and in compliance with recommendations of Governor John Carney and the State of Delaware, our Board of Trustees announces our fall production of the Mel Brooks musical comedy “The Producers” has been postponed and will become part of our 2021 season.
Bialystock and Bloom! Are they the stupidest or the most cunning men to produce a Broadway play? The winner of a record twelve Tony Awards, The Producers lets you decide that as it sets the standard for modern, outrageous, in-your-face humor. The plot is lifted directly from his 1968 movie, and Mel Brooks enlisted Thomas Meehan as a co-writer to create a Broadway musical about two rascals in the business of creating a Broadway musical. Down-on-his-luck Broadway producer Max Bialystock and his mild-mannered accountant Leo Bloom scheme to produce a notorious flop, one that immediately fails and closes, leaving the pair with millions of dollars invested by their backers (all “little old ladies”). Only one thing goes awry: the show is a smash hit! After finding the worst show (the gloriously offensive Springtime for Hitler), and taking all those little old ladies’ money, it seems that their misdeeds are discovered and they get their just desserts and find each other’s friendship in the process.
