Vicente, his partner (a Dreamer), and their three young children pack up their lives and move to Mexico — a country Vicente hasn’t lived in for 12 years, his partner hasn’t known since childhood, and their American citizen children have never seen. The journey is tiring. Their children are uprooted. Career prospects are poor. The adjustment is difficult, and Vicente’s estranged father bristles at the idea of “five more mouths to feed.” But love, family, and determination bring them together to strive for a better future.

Los que regresan examines the contemporary immigrant experience of families targeted by ICE and the self-deportation policies of the current administration. Generational trauma collides with the cruelty of the American immigration system in this new production from playwright Hugo Salcedo. Performed in English with some Spanish.
