Leading actor and lyric tenor William Tabbert is most synonymous for creating the role of Lieutenant Joseph Cable in the Original Broadway production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Pulitzer Prize winning musical, 'South Pacific'. Tabbert's performing career began while still at high school, signing a 3-season contract with the Chicago Opera Company to become the youngest regular member ever on their roster. After being honourably discharged from military service, Tabbert was swiftly cast as the male lead in the first Lerner and Loewe musical 'What's Up'. Following 'What's Up's brief 63 performance run, further musicals followed including 'Follow The Girls', 'Billion Dollar Baby' and the revues 'The Seven Lively Arts' and 'Three To Make Ready'. Then came "South Pacific". The triumphant success of his sensitive portrayal of Marine Lieutenant Joe Cable, for nearly five years of consecutive performances, firmly established William Tabbert as an all-time top ranking musical comedy and dramatic star. When 'South Pacific' finally closed, he abandoned his crew cut, and created the romantic leading role of Marius in Harold Rome's hit Broadway musical 'Fanny'. Despite Tabbert's iconic performances being preserved on the cast recordings of 'South Pacific' and 'Fanny', his output as a solo recording artist was much more sporadic. However, Tabbert did record one solo album, the highly collectable 'Younger Than Springtime', recorded in Rome with the Fono Roma Concert Orchestra conducted by Felice Montagnini. The album features an interesting selection of standards from the worlds of musical theatre and operetta including new interpretations of his signature songs from 'South Pacific' and 'Fanny'. William Tabbert's 'Younger Than Springtime' album now makes it's debut on CD, complemented by an expansive selection of rare bonus tracks culled from Tabbert's various appearances on record. The Bonus Tracks include Tabbert's selections from the 1959 studio album 'An Evening With Jerome Kern', featuring orchestrations by Stanley Melba. Also included is William Tabbert's 1951 Holiday single 'Santa's On His Way' / 'Ma! My Toys Are Broken' and selections from 'Up In Central Park', preserved on a V Disc in 1945. The release continues Stage Door's COLLECTOR'S SERIES, a line of limited edition CD products packaged in a card sleeve and presented in the retro style of a miniature long-playing record. All Collector's Series titles are limited to 500 units.
