Sandhills Rep Announces A GRAND NIGHT FOR SINGING Featuring Autumn Hurlbert, Devin Ilaw, and More Image

In 1993, creative Broadway talents combined some of the most beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein songs from their hugely successful career and created "A Grand Night for Singing". It was nominated for two Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and featured future Tony award winners. Now, the Sandhills Repertory Theatre is bringing this exciting show to the Sandhills. "I have loved Rodgers and Hammerstein shows all my life, and their music speaks to our humanity, with some of the most beloved music and lyrics of all time. It is a privilege to bring this beautiful show to the Sandhills", says Michael Pizzi, Artistic and Producing Director.

The cast is comprised of five performers who hail from Broadway, off-Broadway and regional theatres (including D-Pac). Among them is multiple Broadway show vet Zach Prince, who wowed audiences with his Mr. Snow from "Carousel in Concert", performed at Lee Auditorium last year. Also performing are Stefanie Brown ("Wicked"), Amanda LaVergne ("Annie"), Autumn Hurlbert("Legally Blonde") and Devin Ilaw ("Miss Saigon").

Their voices blend beautifully in duets and trios, with all five voices incomparably singing some of the most beloved tunes. The performance is directed and choreographed by Broadway's Chloe Treat, and music directed by Dan Garmon from Broadway's "Finding Neverland". Complementing this amazing cast are professional Sandhills area musicians.

The Sandhills Repertory Theatre is committed to donating a percentage of net profits of ALL their shows to establish the Sandhills Theatre Arts in the Schools (STARTS) fund, a fund to help support the performing arts in all Moore County schools. "Research, including my own, has shown how the performing arts enhances learning, creates social networks and builds resilience, team building, self esteem and confidence in kids. Performing arts also fosters creativity and imagination and strengthens neurological links, which, in turn, enables learning and supports academics. Most people enjoy the arts so it is important to supportthe arts - either through attending performances, sponsoring a show or simply volunteering to help us develop a sustainable theatre organization with a focus on musicals."

"A Grand Night for Singing" has performances January 18-19 at 730 and January 20 at 230pm at the Hannah Theatre at the O'Neal School, 3300 Airport Rd., Southern Pines.
