NCMA Opens Renovated East Building

By:

Raleigh's North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA) will open its renovated East Building with a rich array of special exhibitions inaugurating a new destination for dynamic art exhibit programming in the Southeastern United States.

The exhibits opening November 7th, include a retrospective of work by iconic American artist and illustrator Norman Rockwell; sculpture by North Carolinian Bob Trotman; children's book illustrations; photography by contemporary Vietnamese-American artist Binh Danh; and John James Audubon's The Birds of America. All but the Rockwell exhibition are open to the public free of charge.

Today, with the Museum's Permanent Collection located in the critically acclaimed West Building, designed by Thomas Phifer and Partners, the East Building has been recast as a vibrant center for rotating exhibitions and education programs. Together, the two buildings offer a great variety of art experiences. In addition the NCMA campus includes a 164 acre Museum Park featuring outdoor sculpture, hiking trails and picnic areas.
