Flat Rock Playhouse Seeks $250,000 to Remain Open

By:

Flat Rock Playhouse, the State Theatre is at a crossroads. The Playhouse is facing a pretty serious situation and is in dire need of funds. Playhouse employees have been making strides towards getting the organization out of financial debt. However, it has not been enough. In order to finish out the year, The Playhouse needs to raise at least $250,000.

A grass roots, socially connected movement to save The Playhouse has been initiated by current staff, administration, board, the local community as well as artists and students who have performed or studied at The Vagabond School of the Drama, also known as Flat Rock Playhouse, The State Theatre of North Carolina. A Facebook group called “Save The Playhouse” was created by Katie Mooney (Playhouse production artist), Bill Muñoz (Playhouse production manager) and Neela Muñoz (Playhouse director/actress and YouTheatre instructor). The group currently has nearly 3,000 members and is the main engine of the fundraising campaign.

Bill Muñoz made the following appeal, "We are calling on fellow vagabonds and lovers of The Playhouse to help out in any way you can. Any donation is welcomed no matter how great or small! Ideas on how to raise money are welcomed and encouraged. For example, people may be inspired to create a dinner party, a benefit concert, bake sales, donations boxes. ANYTHING is welcomed. I can't stress enough how important this is to maintain this organization and family that has been in existence for 60 years. Help us save this theater so that we can move forward and improve in our future. Please help spread the word and help us with ideas. Once a vagabond, always a vagabond."

A number of fundraisers and benefits have been planned and more are soon to be scheduled.
