Deep South The Bar celebrates 10 years with special weekend celebration- October 12th- 14th. Admission is FREE all weekend as the bar hosts Kick-a-verse and Branan Murphy on Thursday, Handsome Foxes, Unifier, and I Was Totally Destroying It on Friday; and Kasey Tyndall with guests the Open Mic All-Stars on Saturday. Plus drink specials, treats & surprises.

Deep South The Bar has partnered with Raleigh's own Oak & Dagger Public House on a one-time-only beer to celebrate the anniversary. This limited edition American Pale Ale will only be available while supplies last (on draft at both Deep South The Bar and Oak & Dagger) starting on the anniversary weekend, and is appropriately titled Deep South The Beer.

Since the tenth anniversary is traditionally celebrated with gifts of tin or aluminum; Deep South suggests you come out and raise a cold one with them!

"Ten years. They tell me that's like 72 in bar years. We're so thrilled to have survived this long. It's a tough business but it speaks volumes about our music culture to have supported a small live music venue for 10 years. And I'm really thankful to be a part of this great community of musicians and music fans. Raleigh rocks!" Dave Rose - owner/founder Deep South The Bar.

Back in the day
Located across the street from Red Hat Amphitheater at 430 S. Dawson Street the bar is nestled between Firestation 1 and the Raleigh Police Downtown District on Cabarrus- it may be one of the safest bars in town. The building was built in 1946 according to tax records although the deed dates back to 1925.

Raleighites may remember Barnett's Suzuki, which was a downtown staple for over 20 years from 1971- 1992 (they are now located at 1509 Lake Wheeler Road). Although empty when they took possession, Richard Barnett believes that there was a diner that was operated out of the bottom of the building prior to their occupancy.

After the Barnetts vacated, it had become several failed bars before Deep South took over. It is rumored that it was even an apartment at one point.
