Burning Coal Theatre Presents AURORA BOREALIS Reading Tonight

Burning Coal Theatre Company's new works series will present its final reading of the season, Aurora Borealis by Raleigh's own Kelly Doyle, directed by Steph Scribner, tonight, June 26th at 7 pm at Burning Coal Theatre Company's Murphey School auditorium, 224 Polk Street, Raleigh, NC. Tickets are free with suggested $5 donation at the door.

When Aurora returns home after spending nearly two years in prison, she finds her brother Milo's hoarder girlfriend has moved into the house and filled it with mountains of well-organized garbage. On the other side of town, Milo has a violent altercation with a rescue worker while he singlehandedly attempts to protect the CSA produce from a hailstorm. When they finally meet, dark secrets from childhood are revealed and resolved as they attempt to reconcile after years of estrangement and misunderstanding. Alternatively disturbing and drily funny, "Aurora Borealis" explores how we escape the traps in life that we set for ourselves and become lost in."

Kelly Doyle lives in Raleigh, NC and is a member of Burning Coal Theatre Company. Her play Blue was premiered at Burning Coal two years ago, and was originally developed as part of the Burning Coal New Works Reading Series in 2009. Other plays developed at Burning Coal include Dirt, The Hole, and Agnes the Giant. Kelly holds an MFA in acting and performance from Cal Arts and is a graduate of the Brown University Playwriting Program. Her collaborative playwriting projects include Naked Plays with Split Britches Company, Fire From Heaven with the Five Lesbian Brothers. She was a recent finalist in the Actor's Theatre of Louisville Ten Minute Play Festival and received a 2010 and 2014 artist development grant from the United Arts Council of Raleigh, NC.
