Blumenthal Performing Arts will highlight the ongoing success of its Open Mic Night with the Best of Open Mic Celebration on August 11 at 7:30 p.m. in McGlohon Theater at Spirit Square.

The Best of Open Mic Celebration will feature popular acts from past Open Mic shows, as voted by recent audience members. Admission is FREE to the public, and spectators of all ages are encouraged to attend. Seating is first-come, first-served.

Blumenthal's Open Mic program has continued to grow since its conception in 2013. On select Friday evenings, over 100 performers apply to be one of twenty randomly selected acts to take the stage that night. Past acts include rappers, dancers, poets, magicians, comedians, jugglers, musicians from various genres, and many others.

"What inspires me to perform is knowing that my art isn't for everybody, but it is for somebody. Whoever that might be, I know they're listening," said Open Mic performer Montrell Brooks.

"My favorite thing about performing at Blumenthal Open Mic is how encouraging and supportive the audience was to all of the performers," added fellow performer Rebecca DiVenere.

Open Mic is part of the Whirl initiative at Blumenthal Performing Arts, which encourages and builds active community participation in professional venues through engaging programming.

Blumenthal Performing Arts serves the Carolinas as a leading cultural, entertainment and education provider. For more information, call (704) 372-1000 or visit BlumenthalArts.org.
