Tony-Winning THE WIZ To Be Presented at The Stranahan Theatre

The American Theatre Guild will present The Wiz at The Stranahan in Toledo as part of the 25–26 Broadway in Toledo Series. The national tour of the Broadway musical will run for eight performances.
About The Production
The Wiz is based on L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and features a score blending soul, gospel, rock, and funk. The musical follows Dorothy’s journey as she searches for a place to call home. The original Broadway production premiered in 1975 and won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
Cast
The principal cast includes Phoenix Assata LaFreniere as Dorothy, Alan Mingo Jr. as The Wiz, Sheherazade as Glinda, Kyla Jade as Aunt Em/Evillene, D. Jerome as the Tinman, Cal Mitchell as the Lion, and Elijah Ahmad Lewis as the Scarecrow.
The ensemble includes Maati Kheprimeni Angaza, Sai Anthony, Aliyah Caldwell, Robert Crenshaw, Lawrence Dandridge, Cyniah Elise, Amitria Fanae', Gregory Hamilton, Maya Imani, Jesse Jones, Omar Madden, Micah Jeremiah Mims, Nia Nelson-Williams, Charlotte Odusanya, Moriah Perry, Keyon Pickett, Daja M. Rice, Khi'Shawn A'Quez Robinson, Madison Scott, Kameren Whigham, and Chanse Williams.
Creative Team
The production features a book by William F. Brown and a score by Charlie Smalls, with direction by Schele Williams and choreography by JaQuel Knight. Additional material is by Amber Ruffin, with music supervision and arrangements by Joseph Joubert and Allen René Louis.
Design team members include scenic designer Hannah Beachler, Costume Designer Sharen Davis, lighting designer Ryan J. O’Gara, sound designer Jon Weston, and video and projection designer Daniel Brodie.
