Milagro's theatre annual multidisciplinary festival La Luna Nueva is proud to present the powerful hip-hop theatre production Dreamscape. Written by cutting edge playwright Rickerby Hinds, Dreamscape showcase energetic story telling and traditional elements of hip-hop such as beatboxin' and rap, giving the spectators a unique thought-provoking experience.

Dreamscape is based on the real shooting of Tyisha Miller an African-American teenager in south California, shot by the police on 1998. Using details from Miller's autopsy and reflections of her life, Dreamscape explores the relations and consequences of the systemic racism, police brutality and racial profiling impacting minorities and communities of color, especial black, in modem America.

Recent events around the country demonstrate that the police violence and race crimes that were part of Tyisha's fatal death still shockingly affect our communities. Dreamscape presents an opportunity to spark conversations about these realities on stage and every night after the show with the post-show conversations with creator Rickerby Hinds.

DREAMSCAPE will make its Portland Premiere at La Luna Nueva, September 19 and 20, 2014 at the Milagro Theatre, 525 SE Stark Street, Portland, Oregon 97214. Advance tickets $20; day of the event $23. Purchase tickets from 503-236-7253 or www.milagro.org.

ABOUT THE PLAY
Through Beatboxin', spoken word, and dance, this hip-hop performance depicts the inner life of a young woman who dreams though the impact of the twelve bullets that kill her. A powerfully clear-eyed look at the relationships between race, the body, and violence as woman reminisces about her life, describing the pleasures of softball, dancing, kissing, and hair styling with sweetness, humor, and all the insight of a nineteen-year-old. Rickerby Hinds, one of the most influential individuals to come into the theater world in a generation, is the creator of the first ever full-length play to use the founding elements of hip hop as the primary language of the stage, introducing the genre of hip hop theater to the world.
